BlockIs the short story making a comeback? I guess it never really went away. There certainly seem to be plenty of opportunities around at the moment. The Puffin Review highlighted a useful resource via Twitter this week: Joe Bunting’s website lists 44 potential places to publish short stories. These are US-centric, but are worth a look.

Christopher Fielding maintains a great list of short story opportunities and his site is well worth a visit. There are a significant number where you do not have to pay.

The Book Trust also has a comprehensive list of short story competitions, though you will have to pay to enter.

Finally Creative Scotland is listing a short story competition with Mardibooks with an opportunity for seeing your short story in print. Details here.

Now that you are reeling with all this opportunity, why not settle down and read a short story? Grumpy is one I enjoyed writing. You can find a taster of it here. Read the whole story published by Far Off Places in Issue One.
