PageLines- Sun.jpgThere’s nothing quite as exciting for an emerging writer as getting a piece of work published. There are plenty of opportunities around. Here are four that have caught my eye recently.

  1. Mardibooks have partnered with Ideas Tap to launch a poetry competition. The themes are: Water; Time; Hoarding; Authority. No longer than 1250 words and 40 lines per page. You’ll need to sign up to be a member of Ideas Tap, but that’s free and it’s a great resource in any case. There’s still time to get a poem submitted before the deadline of 28th August 2013. Details here.
  2. Far Off Places are looking for submissions for their 4th edition ‘Between the Leaves’. They are happy to publish short writing in a variety of forms, including poetry, flash fiction, and short-form prose and drama. Poetry should be no more than 40 lines. They accept prose and drama of up to 2000 words. Find out more here.
  3. New Writing Dundee 8 invites your submissions of poetry (up to 20 lines) or prose (max 2000 words). Deadline is the end of October 2013. Check out the fine print here.
  4. Hat tip to fellow Binge Inker, Martin Redfern for drawing attention to Flash Fiction World which runs its own competitions and also has advice and a wealth of other opportunities. Submissions there open again on September the 1st 2013.

Go for it and good luck!
