BlockNeeding a bit of a push to write? Here are three good opportunities to get published. Yes, these editors are looking for your work!

1. Sartorial Theme
The editors are looking for submissions for Volume II, Issue I of Far Off Places, with the theme Sartorial. They say: Is your protagonist a Dedicated Follower of Fashion, or did (s)he inherit a grandmother’s brown suede gloves with a tale to tell? Whatever stories are whispered within your wardrobe, we want to read them! We’re happy to publish short writing in a variety of forms, including poetry, flash fiction, and short-form prose and drama. Poetry should be no more than 40 lines. We accept prose and drama of up to 3000 words. You’re welcome to submit up to three poems or one piece of prose or drama. The deadline is midnight on Hogmanay 2013. Details here.

2. War/Peace Story
Mardibooks are looking for short stories of between 1,200 and 5,000 words by writers of all ages. Up to 12 submissions will be selected to receive one-to-one expert feedback from Mardibooks’ founders, writers Martin Godleman and Belinda Hunt.

The theme of this brief is First World War Centenary – all entries must relate in some way to the idea of war or peace. Successful submissions will be original ideas, well devised, with an interesting story and developed characterisation. Stories need to show an interesting use of language and considered and appropriate structural devices. The tone and construction needs to fit the purpose and the audience. The deadline is the 29th of November 2013 and you will get the details here.

3. Momma Tried Magazine
Looks like this US-based magazine will accept admissions from overseas. It’s a nudie magazine, but this is interpreted loosely! They are looking for non-fiction or fiction that pushes boundaries in its content, form, or both. Find out more here. Deadline is Jan 5th 2013.
